ZEMER CHAI SINGS 'SONGS TO JERUSALEM'

Zemer Chai, Washington's Jewish Community Chorus, will perform "Songs to Jerusalem," on May 29 at 8:00 p.m. The Yom Yerushalayim concert marks the day that Jews in modern times could once again pray in the Old City of Jerusalem at holy sites, including the Western Wall of the Holy Temple.

The music includes settings of Biblical and secular poetry that express both the longing and love for the city by the Jewish people. "These texts also remind us of our unending obligation to ensure the peace of Jerusalem, of Israel, and all her inhabitants," said Zemer Chai conductor Eleanor Epstein.

"Jerusalem is unique, not only in Jewish history, but in world history," Epstein explained. "As the 'city of God,' Jerusalem stands as a symbol of global peaceful coexistence. It is ours and everyone's at one and the same time."

The concert is performed in cooperation with Ohr Kodesh Congregation at 8300 Meadowbrook Lane, Chevy Chase. Patrons - $36; General admission - $18 in advance, $20 at the door. For tickets and information 301-963-3462; info@zemerchai.org.
